Acids and caring for our teeth

We all like having lovely clean shiny teeth.
We were talking today about how acids can be bad for your teeth. can we tell which things are acids or not.
Teacher had some cabbage with her today.  It looks purple but it is called red cabbage.
When you put this in hot water the water turns blue.  It is a pH indicator.
Now all we had to do was add things to find out whether they are acids or not.
We found that lemon, vinegar, orange juice and Sprite are all acids and turn the cabbage water pink.
Bread soda is not (it is an alkali or base) and turns the cabbage water light blue.
Now we know which drinks are acids and we will wash our teeth well after drinking acids in foods.
Here's a great song about brushing your teeth:

Learning about China

We heard a really good Chinese story about how each year has been named after an animal on the Chinese zodiac.
We really enjoyed sequencing the story and talking all about the characters of each of the animals.
Look at the cool dragons we made in art with 2 paper plates and some paint.
We will finish them tomorrow.
We also heard a Chinese song.
We love learning about China.

Trip to the bottle bank

Trip to the Bottle Bank!

When we visited the bottle bank we met the man who collects all the bottles when the bank is full. He told us all about the bottle bank. He said he collects it in his truck then all of the glass is recycled in a plant. It is crushed down into tiny pieces, melted and then used to make new bottles. He said it is very important to separate the glass into the correct colours.
We recycled some brown and clear glass.
We heard a huge CRASH when the bank of bottles was emptied into the truck!!

Dina school

Wally and Dina came to visit us again today with Claire and Mary.
Here are Wally and Claire
We love singing our song
Shake hands with a friend and say Hello
Shake hands with a friend and say Hello
Shake hands with a friend and say Hello
It's Dino school today you know.
Here Mary and Wally are teaching us Show Me five!
Dina is always tired because she is so old.
It can be quite hard to wake her up.
Wally and Dina are checking how great we are at Showing Five

Learning about the water cycle

Our favourite Water Cycle song
We are learning about the water cycle:-
About how water evaportates to make gas which forms clouds in the sky when it condenses before it falls again as rain precipitation.
Here are some great videos which helped us in our understanding of the water cycle today.
