Learning about Africa

We saw a fabulous cartoon called Kirikou ,about a young African boy who is very brave and keeps saving his village.
We looked at pictures of Kenya afterwards and learned about life in Kenya - baobab trees, kiondo bags ,getting water from far away, school life etc...

spring walk

Ms Mc Cauls class went on a walk to see the signs of spring in our locality.

Spotting houses

Today we walked to the beach with Ms. Conneely's class.
We looked at all sorts of houses.
We found bungalows, 2 story houses, 3 story houses, caravans, camper vans, detached houses, dormer houses, a thatched cottage, apartments, semi-detached and detached houses and even a split level house.
The highlight of our house spotting was when we got to see inside a real caravan! What a treat!

On our way to the beach we spotted all sorts of shapes.  Lots of the signs we passed were triangles, diamonds, rectangles, circles or octagons.  We also spotted cuboids, cylinders and spheres.
Which shapes can you see?
Lastly we just had fun.  Fun on the beach on such a nice day.  It is great that our school is so close to lovely Ballyloughane beach.

Fruit salad

We made a delicious fruit salad  in class today, as we have been learning all about fruit and healthy eating. We also used some of the fruits mentioned in Handa's Surprise. The fruits we used to make our fruit salad were; pineapple (which was an all round favourite!!), kiwi, strawberries, grapes, mango, grapefruit, apples, tangerines and bananas. It really was yummy for our tummies and we are all going to try to eat more fruit each day as we know that it is really good for us.
