Travelling Ted

This is Mr Ted. He will be visiting all of your homes in the next few weeks. Please show Mr Ted around and bring him to any family outings you may have. You can take a picture and write a little diary entry for your time with Mr Ted in his diary that will go with him on his travels. Mr Ted is very excited!!

We are learning some very interesting things about the way people travel. Here are some very interesting pictures that we compared to modern such modes of transport.

Old and new

We have been looking at alot of old and new things this week. Old houses, old furniture and old clothes.
We talked about the differences in the clothes worn in the past and the clothes people wear today. We talked about the differences in houses in the past and today.

Learning about life long ago

We are learning about life long ago.

We have asked some of our grandparents to come and tell us all about life long ago.

Today Caimin brought us in a great book about what life was like during World War II.

We looked at the pictures and had a great talk about life during that time.

Recycling bins

We had lots of empty glass candle jars in our class so today we took a trip to the glass recycling area at the Kingfisher to get rid of them.We learned how they are divided into clear,green and brown glass and that we should always be gentle when getting rid of them.

Learning all about Poland

We saw a great presentation on Poland and learned about the flag (white and red), the symbol of Poland  (an eagle with a crown), the 4 distinct seasons in Poland (we especially loved to see all the gorgeous white powdery snow, we are so jealous!), and Christmas celebrations.

We were really surprised to hear that turkey is not the traditional Christmas food.  Instead in Poland the big Christmas meal is eaten on Christmas Eve and consists of 12 distinct dishes (in honour of the 12 apostles).   We really liked the look of the fish dish and the beatroot with dumpling soup!

The Christmas dishes are not eaten until you have seen the first star of Christmas Eve in the sky.  What a lovely custom!
